I took an 18-month scientific research program at my high school, Hawken, where I learned research techniques, how to do academic scientific research, and how to create and present a research paper or overarching project. After the introductory learning of the class, I identified an aeronautical research lab head to work with on his DARPA-funded research project with drones using universal sign language. I worked to create this sign language that would allow effective control of drones by a single operator without the use of any remote control. My research presentations won my school's science fair, and I then presented at North Eastern Science Symposium and went on to win several awards:
